Bridges and Crowns in Farmington, Utah
Oakridge Dental offers crowns and bridges using a variety of techniques designed to best suit the specific situation a customer finds themselves in. Dental crowns are used to cover a tooth that has either been damaged by decay, by a trauma or some type of injury or when there is any other situation where a tooth’s top is not fit to perform as an original tooth would. A dental bridge is used to replace a tooth using the two surrounding teeth as a foundation and can be made from porcelain, ceramic, resin and metal just as with a crown.
A dental crown is an artificial tooth top that is formed out of materials like porcelain, ceramic, metal alloys or resin. A mold or computer model of the tooth is first made and then used to create a crown, sometime called a cap, that will fit over the top of the root of the tooth and provide an aesthetic that is similar to the original tooth as well as give chewing performance like the original.
A dental bridge differs from a crown in that the underlying root is not used as the foundation, instead the teeth on either side of where the tooth being “bridged” is located are used as a foundation for the bridge. The surrounding teeth often need to be crowned in order to give the foundation for the bridge.
